Aidol Omnibus 1 (Vol. 1-2)

In this dark showbiz horror manga, a sick fan of a mediocre idol singer becomes a monstrous presence possessing the electrical grid. He wields his strange new powers mercilessly to make his stan a success—whether she likes it or not. It's Death Note or Perfect Blue reimagined as a hard R-rated supernatural/sci-fi grindhouse slasher thriller in the mode of Final Destination, from the creators of Fort of Apocalypse and Starving Anonymous. Omnibus volume contains parts 1 and 2. A complete story in two books. Tadahiro spends his days being shrieked at by customers at an understaffed convenience store only to return home to his mother stealing from his wallet. His only solace is his VR headset, which transports him on stage with Misaki Kanzaki. As an idol singer, Misaki's average at best, but she knew Tadahiro in high school and was the only one in the world who treated him with kindness. When his useless boss throws away Tadahiro's prize possession—the handkerchief Misaki gave him back then—he wires his headset to his skull and turns it on. Tadahiro's body dies, but his mind awakens embedded in the network of smart devices and electrical appliances that forms the nervous and circulatory systems of modern Tokyo. Free of obligations and limitations, this new being takes his vengeance on his slacker coworkers, his alcoholic mother, and everyone holding back his beloved Misaki. Meanwhile, the law faces down a mystery that seems unsolveable... Horrific and perplexing Final Destination–style kills and a toxic showbiz backdrop reminiscent of The Substance and Black Swan make AIDOL the perfect sci-fi horror story for fans of Dragon Head, PTSD Radio, Homunculus, and Erased. Rated Mature 18+ for violence, terror, gruesome death, and vulgar language.
