El Prototipo / The Prototype

«TODA LA ECONOMÍA DEL PLANETA ESTABA BASADA EN LA UTILIZACIÓN DEL PETRÓLEO. LOS INTENTOS DE APROVECHAMIENTO DE LA ENERGÍA SOLAR ERAN TODAVÍA MUY PRIMITIVOS Y LA FUERZA NUCLEAR REPRESENTABA ENORMES PELIGROS. EL ÉXITO DE UN SISTEMADE APROVECHAMIENTO DIRECTO DE LA LATTICE NO IBA A GUSTARLE NADA A LAS COMPAÑÍAS DE PETRÓLEO.» -J. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION “THE ENTIRE GLOBAL ECONOMY WAS BASED ON THE USE OF CRUDE. ATTEMPTS TO HARVEST SOLAR ENERGY WERE STILL VERY PRIMITIVE, AND NUCLEAR POWER POSED ENORMOUS DANGERS. THE SUCCESS OF A SYSTEM FOR DIRECT UTILIZATION OF THE LATTICE WAS NOT GOING TO PLEASE THE OIL COMPANIES AT ALL.” — J.G.Z. First published in 1991 and inspired by the war in the Persian Gulf, this novel poses an urgent question: what would happen if there were a real alternative to oil? Augusto, a brilliant scientist but one who makes many people uncomfortable, has an answer: the prototype, a revolutionary system that relies on neither solar nor nuclear energy, but instead draws power and heat directly from the intimate structure of space-time, that is, from the lattice. But what appears to be a colossal technological breakthrough soon reveals its most unsettling secret: the true prototype is not a machine or an invention, but the result of a radical transformation of human consciousness. With an immersive style brimming with intrigue, Grinberg delivers a scientific and philosophical thriller that explores the limits of science and power, while questioning the planet’s energy future, the course of humanity, and the possibility of a new order born not of ambition, but of the inner evolution of the human being.
