English for Foreigners

"English for Foreigners" by Peter Roberts offers a comprehensive guide to learning English, originally published in 1914. Designed primarily for immigrants and those new to the United States, this book serves as a practical resource for acquiring essential language skills necessary for everyday life and work. The text focuses on basic grammar, vocabulary, and conversational English, with an emphasis on practical application. This edition reflects the early 20th-century approach to language instruction and provides valuable insights into the educational methods used during the Americanization movement. Roberts' work remains relevant for historical study and offers a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities faced by immigrants learning English. It will appeal to educators, historians, and anyone interested in the history of ESL instruction.
