The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses and the Rise of the Tudors

The author of the bestsellers The Templars and The Plantagenets recounts one of the most fascinating and tragic chapters of British history. In the fifteenth century, the country went through a series of long and bloody civil wars. The crown of England changed hands seven times as members of the noble families vied for the right to power. Dan Jones concludes his epic history of medieval Britain with a book about the War of the Scarlet and White Rose and shows how the Tudors defeated the Plantagenets and seized the crown. It vividly describes the splendour of the royal court and the country's disasters, intrigue and plotting, and the famous battles - among them the Battle of Towton, in which 28,000 men died, and Bosworth, where the last Plantagenet king died in battle. These are the real events behind Shakespeare's famous historical chronicles as well as the popular BBC series and served as the basis for Game of Thrones.
