The Miner's Daughters

Wolverhampton, 1860 In the heart of the Black Country, one tragic accident is about to shatter a family forever. Fifteen-year-old Jenny Ryder knows she has a lot to be grateful for. Insulated from the grinding hardship that surrounds her by the graft of her beloved miner father Gerald, she can spend her days revelling in her passion for drawing and getting to know handsome cut-rat Ben Johnson and charming Romany Lazlo. But when there's a devastating accident at the colliery, everything changes. Plunged into sudden poverty and with her mother Evie paralysed by grief, it falls to Jenny to keep the family from the workhouse. But the tough streets of Wolverhampton are unforgiving, and her greatest enemy might just be her own bitterly jealous sister, Sophie. As the sisters' rivalry threatens to tear the family apart, a sinister shadow from their mother's past begins to stalk the Ryder women. Jack Montague is a ruthless man who always gets what he wants and his sights are set on Evie. Can Jenny, Ben and Lazlo protect her fragile family from ruin? Or will dark secrets and a dangerous man destroy them all? Readers love Lindsey Hutchinson: 'I always look forward to a book by Lindsey Hutchinson as I did for those by her mother. She has taken on the legacy and excelled herself in my opinion.' 'Another brilliant book by this author. Family saga at its best. Emotional and heartwarming at the same time.'
