The Prisoner of the Caucasus

"The Prisoner of the Caucasus" is a piece by one of the world's greatest writers, the Russian prose writer and thinker L. N. Tolstoy (1828–1910). The story depicts a Russian officer in captivity among the mountaineers during the Caucasian War. This is one of the writer's most popular creations, once again affirming Tolstoy's mastery of portraiture, both psychological and otherwise. The work is a mandatory part of the school curriculum. Tolstoy created many wonderful works, including "Resurrection", "War and Peace", "The Prisoner of the Caucasus", "Cossacks", and "The Kreutzer Sonata". The works of Leo Tolstoy have had a profound influence on the development of not only Russian but also world literature. His writings are deeply philosophical, addressing a multitude of eternal questions: life and death, emotions and duty, love and honor.
