- The New York Times «Todo final es un principio'. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION NO ONE NOTICED HER UNTIL SOMETHING FORCED THEM TO LOOK. AND THAT WAS THE FIRST DAY OF HER LIFE. THE NEW NOVEL BY THE WINNER OF THE NATIONAL PRIZE FOR SPANISH LITERATURE "For the creation of a personal universe whose themes reflect her commitments to life and existence -- a universe that has been described as an ethics of hope." -- Jury of the National Prize for Spanish Literature "Her empathy does not falter even when she delves into the most extreme emotions, impulses, and psychological peculiarities." -- The New York Times "Every ending is a beginning." Clarita has spent thirty years working at a bank, clinging to an almost invisible precision, in a narrow world where every gesture is foreseen. Solitary, meticulous, and used to taking up little space, she faces her last day before retirement like someone peering across an uncertain threshold: on the other side she imagines not a new chapter, but a void she cannot name. >With psychological intensity, plenty of humor, and a prodigious command of suspense, Rosa Montero offers us a moving story of self-affirmation and transformation. It could be the tale of an ugly duckling that becomes a swan -- though it is really that of an improbable frog transmuted into a tyrannosaurus.
