The Theory of Inheritance (The Sherlock Holmes Advent Calendar: The Arrival of the Saviour, Episode 8)

Brother Peter raises the alarm, and Watson hurries to the library of the Abbey of the Saviour with his doctor's bag. In a hidden side room full of banned books, help comes too late: the old librarian, Brother Nikolaus, lies on the floor – struck down from behind, just like Brother Emanuel before him. Beside him lies a slim volume: "Experiments on Plant Hybrids" by a certain Gregor Mendel of Brno. What Lestrade dismisses as experimental gardening sets off a heated argument between Holmes and Watson about heredity, progress and whether man may play God. In the dining hall, Abbot Brother Francis recognises the handwriting and recalls an encounter in London more than twenty years ago. And while Lestrade finally wants to interrogate the monks, Holmes urges caution – for nobody should underestimate this culprit...This radio play was produced with the help of Eleven Labs and using properly licensed voice clones, and was checked by human proofreaders.
