Ford Transit Campervan

First launched in the United Kingdom in October 1965 to replace the Ford Thames, the Ford Transit soon drew the attention of campervan converters, including Dormobile, Auto Sleeper and the Swift Group. As this book shows, the Transit campervan and motorhome went from strength to strength, with converters appreciating the Transit's ample dimensions and reliable mechanics. As the campervan market grew, Ford was keen to take advantage of the opportunities, though it faced stiff competition from the legendary VW Transporter as well as vans produced by other manufacturers, including Mitsubishi, Toyota, Renault, Peugeot and Mercedes. The book follows the development of the Transit through its various generations from the 1960s through to the present day and describes the different modifications as successive versions of the Transit continued to be favoured by campervan or motorhome converters. Accompanied by a wide range of photography, showing Transit campervan and motorhome conversions through the decades, this book is a concise but comprehensive guide and companion to one of Britain's most popular van conversions.
