William Stanek's The Living Olympic Biography

Olympic begins in the ocean.Rock carried by moving crust became mountains. Ice reshaped them. Rain gathered against their slopes. Rivers carried mountain water through forests toward the Pacific. Salmon moved between sea and interior, joining worlds that roads would later make seem separate.William Stanek's The Living Olympic Biography follows that connected landscape through geology, glaciers, rain forest, coast, Indigenous homelands, settlement, logging, dams, preservation, river restoration, wildlife, fire, and a changing climate. The result is the biography of a peninsula whose parts cannot be understood alone.Mountains become rivers. Rivers become forests. Forests meet the sea. And the story of protecting Olympic becomes, increasingly, the story of repairing connections once broken.
