The Guest in Room 108

Room 108 hides a dangerous secret—and before midnight, it holds a murdered man. At the height of the August season, Nicholas Meryon arrives at the Bay Hotel with the wealthy Wray party and papers that could destroy somebody's trusted position. A private visitor is seen leaving his room. Restaurant service and terrace music then give nearly everyone an alibi. But when Nicholas is found dead, the room chart, guest keys and a convenient claim of kinship tell different stories. Hotel owner Edmund Trewin and his niece Katherine reconstruct luggage movements, altered room assignments and every possible route to 108. Summer guest Bea Harcourt helps them recognise the concealed relationship behind an apparently scandalous visit, while the suspects' family loyalties make truth as dangerous as deceit. Then a second killing strikes just as the mystery seems ready to yield. Edmund and Katherine must decide whether two murderers are hiding in the hotel—or whether one guest has deceived them all.
