Udhayabanu - Vaarkadal

1001 CE. Chōḷa king Rājarāja is on his way to Aḷa nādu, the hillside western region of Pāṇḍya country to meet old malayāḷi natives settled at Pūranagiri hill. These diligent natives had earlier provided some vital clues on the assassination attempt at Thanjāvūr. Mūvēndan, a trusted member of the king's personal bodyguards - has embarked on a risky mission to follow a Kerala youth suspected to be one of the assassins. General Maḷapādiyar, on his way back to the Chōḷa capital, has just learnt a deadly secret that could provide clues on the past and its connections to the present. At Thanjāvūr, dancer Mathura is shocked about the unwelcome truth that has come her way. Meanwhile, the developments in Chōḷa country are raising serious concerns in the mind of Bhāskara Ravivarma, the Chēra Perumāl king, who is holding private consultations with his trusted Chief of Staff, Paḍamēl Nāir. Chēra-Chōḷa relations have been going south for some time, but this assassination attempt and its links to Chēras might be the final straw that could put both kingdoms on a collision course. What is the real purpose of Rājarāja's visit? What will Mūvēndan learn about the assassin? What about Kamban Maniyar, the varma expert who is heading to Thanjāvūr to cure the Chōḷa spy Iyngaran? In order to solve the complex riddle in front of them, the friends of Chōḷa king have to come to terms with some uncomfortable secrets - not just about the enemies, but about themselves!
